Much has been said that the legal underpinnings in the Philippine educational system cover a comprehensive array of laws that are intended to safeguard the right and safety of both the learners and the teachers. It aims to provide a set of rules and regulations which should be abided by everyone. Gone are the days when the rights and privileges of both the learners and teachers are not that apparent in the eyes of law. In this day and age, the Philippine educational system has been running systematically and legally compliant because of the legal bases that are stipulated in the law.
It is a constitutional right of the students to have an access to a quality education. It is the obligation of the state to provide the educational needs of the learners. These learners are considered as the main clientele under the legal system. Teachers are likewise getting the same privilege just like what the learners are currently enjoying. It had been an issue back in the days that the anti-child abuse are being used against the teachers. Thus, they became an easy prey for the seemingly public shaming. With these legal bases in education, both parties are protected under the rule of law.
A lot of issues have resurfaced in social media wherein a teacher is being condemned for disciplining the child. It seemed as though that the teacher’s hands are tied with a handcuff. The teacher could do nothing but unleash a heavy sigh. More often than not, teachers are being power tripped by the parents for administering discipline on their child. It is easy for others to spew harsh comments against the teachers, but some failed to know the reason why teachers do that. Have we questioned ourselves first whether or not the child is causing trouble in school? Did we try to ask as well whether or not the child is someone who should get that disciplinary measure that he/she will learn from?
People can easily harbor outrage and hatred against the teachers every time they discipline students be it in a form of corporal punishment. Though corporal punishment is not the ideal style of discipline that a teacher should used, but we should at least take a look on the brighter side of it.For sure, it is just a form of teacher’s love and affection toward his/her students. A teacher acts as a second parent of th students, and I think it is justifiable that a teacher should give due disciplinary actions to the student every time the student misbehaves.
Teachers’ effect is until beyond eternity. They are the ones who carve the path to where the students should go to. They likewise unfill the cup of ignorance and turn it into a filled glass of knowledge and wisdom. More often than not, teachers’ works are spilling over the weekend, but they do not mind it as they believe that it is the mission that they have sworn for. With the implementation of the legal bases of education, it gave a safeguarding right to the teachers as they become an easy prey for legal compromise. Thus, teachers and learners should work hand in hand to attain a brighter glance in education.
